2004/5 Challenge - "Traditional v Art"

The inspiration for our sixth challenge in 2004/5 came about as a result of the discussions that took place at the Quilters' Guild AGM in 2004. These discussions revolved around the relationship between "traditional" quilts and "contemporary art" quilts. The idea for our challenge was to combine traditional and contemporary art designs into a wall-hanging. The originator was to produce a traditional block and the rest of the group could then provide various sized blocks that were a manipulation of the original design. The originator would then combine these with the traditional block in order to fulfil the objective of the title "Traditional v Art". These seven quilts were entered at the Festival of Quilts in August 2005. As a group, we felt that the idea was good but that somehow, we had not been able to fulfil the "contemporary" aspect of the challenge.

These quilts were entered in the Group Quilt section of the Festival of Quilts at the NEC in 2005.
