Staging the exhibition was a brilliant experience for us all and took a lot of careful planning and consideration.
Our careful and extensive marketing was rewarded by the attendance of over 500 visitors during the 5 days. They left many varied and wonderful comments in the visitor's book.
The East Wing Gallery is a lovely venue for an exhibition on this scale. Many visitors have since commented how nice it was to look at the quilts close up and have some information to absorb rather than the sea of quilts you are confronted with at the large quilt fairs such as FOQ etc.
This exhibition prompted lots of interest in our work. We all had smaller pieces to sell including post cards and kits, and one or two of the larger pieces sold and now have new homes…
Maryel"s 'Crop Circles’ are now in California and its new owner and its maker are now keeping up regular contact. Most encouraging!
Julia, who has been teaching for many years now, advertises her courses and talks and has been very busy planning her next year’s diary as well as fulfilling this year’s commitments.
Lois has had her first experience of teaching after studying for 10 years (part time!!). She has had sessions with 6th formers studying A level Art, right down to little Primary School children (Years 1-6) doing workshops involving recycling and remaking textiles from plastics. She had a fabulous session in April with the Bishops Sutton WI group introducing them to Textile Artistry with Recyclables.
On behalf of the StitchWitches Terry and Lois, together, had a lot of fun introducing the Bourne Quilters, in Emsworth, to the our various group challenges done over the 10 years we have been together. We were able to answer a few questions for the ladies. Some of them have a few challenges of their own on the go now!
Lee is busy working towards the exhibition she holds annually with Stitch Art Studio at Denbies Wine Estate in June 2007.
Kate continues with her busy life in Bridport where she lives and works as a successful Textile Artist, giving talks and exhibiting her work.
We have started a new challenge, which is not for exhibition at this stage, but we felt we should keep our hands in and get back into the swing of working on each other’s pieces again. We have all admitted that it has been tricky starting again but we are all giving each other support and are seeing it as therapy!!
We plan to start another new challenge in September, which may be entered into The Festival of Quilts the following year. There are rumblings about another exhibition at the Maltings but no fixed dates yet!!
Having an exhibition is fun but takes the stuffing out of you somewhat!!! All you professional exhibitionists (!!) will know what we mean I’m sure.
If anyone would like to pass on any comments you can send an email via this site and one of us will be happy to give it our attention.
